MiKA - Researching families together with children
MiKA "in a nutshell"
- Researchers from the Department of Sociology at the University of Vienna are investigating children's perceptions of family diversity.
- The research project is participatory in design, meaning that primary school students, teachers, and students becoming teachers are part of the research team.
- One of the main goals is to develop a card set titled "Colourful Families: Discovery Cards on Family Diversity" and other materials that can be used in primary school teaching.
Children’s Concepts of Family Diversity
The MiKA project focuses on children’s perceptions of diversity in families. Research workshops are conducted together with primary school students (third and fourth grade of elementary school). In collaboration with student teachers from the University of Teacher Education Vienna (PH Wien), a card set titled “Colourful Families: Discovery Cards on Family Diversity” is being developed. This card set will be available as easily applicable teaching material to address family diversity in the classroom.
